Sanaa at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge: A Must-Try Vegan Dining Experience

Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge offers some of the best dining on Walt Disney World property. We recently visited Sanaa. What did we think of the vegan options?
The Sanaa Restaurant can be found in the Kidani Village section of Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge. Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge is divided into two main sections: Kidani Village and Jumbo House. Internal transportation is provided between those two sections since going from one section to another takes some time.

The main restaurant at Kidani Village is Sanaa. This restaurant resides downstairs on the lowest floor of Kidani Village.
Sanaa serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Breakfast there functions as more of a quick service option. We enjoy breakfast at Sanaa. Of course, Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge can be hard to get to for breakfast. Also, breakfast at Sanaa does not offer any discounts.
In contrast, lunch and dinner are table service dining. So, lunch and dinner may require an advanced dining reservation. Reservations can be a challenge to acquire based on the day and time you desire. MouseDining can help you with that if you desire. Also, Sanaa offers lunch and dinner discounts of 10% on food and non-alcoholic beverages.
Sanaa Bread Service- Enough Said!

We ordered the Indian-style Bread Service for $22 during our recent visit. We could rave about the bread service here. Still, if you have not enjoyed it before, this makes a tremendous sharable appetizer. You can also order this to go. By far, this appetizer, which has five types of bread and nine sauces/dips to enjoy, creates a signature experience at Sanaa. For vegan diners, you can order this with vegan naan bread and replace one of the sauces to make it vegan-friendly. The bread service deserves the rave reviews it receives from experienced Walt Disney World Resort guests.

Vegan Entrée Option at Sanaa: Zanzibari Vegetable Curry – $24.00

Since the Indian-style Bread Service makes an obvious appetizer choice, what should a vegan diner order at Sanaa for an entrée? During our recent visit, we ordered the Zanzibari Vegetable Curry.
We ordered this entrée to experience an entirely vegan meal at Sanaa on this visit. Of course, as someone who dines in theme parks often, the need for some actual nutritional value compelled us to eat our vegetables as many parents beg their children to do. Since this latest trip was not a pre-planned dining review, we went with the entrée having the most nutrition based on the menu description.
Of course, the menu description at Sanaa leaves out lots of details. It simply reads “Seasonal Vegetables with Fragrant Rice.” In retrospect, as someone allergic to zucchini and summer squash, this entrée choice could have been problematic since those are common seasonal vegetables. The good news is that our entrée did not come with any of those.
On this day, the Zanzibari Vegetable Curry came with cauliflower, carrots, lima beans, pickled onions, pearl onions, and yucca. All of that sits on top of basmati rice. The curry appeared to be coconut milk-based. The curry gave off a sweet flavor with a minor touch of spice. Though we prefer far more spice with our curry, we expected it to be mild based on the typical theme park resort guest’s preferences for cuisine.
Upgrades Available

You can order this entrée with chicken or shrimp for an additional charge. We see how those proteins would work well with this vegetable and curry base.
The vegetables were prepared wonderfully, as we expected at Sanaa. The curry base enhanced the other components nicely. Overall, this makes a solid table service vegan-friendly option. However, we do feel that carnivores might feel this entrée without an additional protein would not be ideal.
We could not help but compare this vegan option to one of our favorite vegan options at Universal Orlando Resort, the Curried Chickpeas at Bob Marley-A Tribute to Freedom. We thought the Zanzibari Vegetable Curry at Sanaa needed more rice to be a completely balanced meal. The Curried Chickpeas over at Universal CityWalk Orlando comes with more rice, making it feel like more of a balanced meal. Of course, our bias toward the Curried Chickpeas also involves the lower price point.
Despite that, we found the Zanzibari Vegetable Curry makes an excellent entrée, especially for vegan diners. Of course, finding a bad meal at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge is hard.
