Marvel Studios sparks speculation with a cryptic live video featuring star-studded chairs. Could this be the cast reveal for “Avengers: Doomsday?” Rumors of a big announcement regarding the Marvel Cinematic Universe started in earnest yesterday. Marvel continues to tease with a video. This video started with no actual title. After a few hours, the video title changed to “Avengers: Doomsday | Cast Announce.”

Marvel

The Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) remains a key piece of modern pop culture. Stars like Robert Downey Jr, Chris Evans, and Chris Hemsworth are well-known for their work in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. This franchise remains popular despite the possible regression in popularity and quality of Marvel Cinematic Universe projects. Anything that happens regarding it makes news.

Marvel Cinematic Universe News?

Today, we have odd news, even for the MCU. On March 25, there were rumors that the MCU would make a huge announcement on March 26 at 11:00 a.m. eastern time. When the time came, a live video appeared on the studio’s YouTube channel at that exact time

At the time of this writing, the live feed shows the backs of chairs with names like Chris Hemsworth and Anthony Mackie on them. At one point, the live video showed a chair with Vanessa Kirby’s name on it. She is cast to play Sue Storm in “The Fantastic Four: First Steps.” While typing this, the live video moved to a chair with Sebastian Stan’s name on it. He, of course, plays Bucky Barnes, The Winter Soldier, in the MCU.

What does all this mean? We have no idea! The best educated guess leads us to believe that fans are getting an entire cast reveal for “Avengers: Doomsday.” Of course, we have no facts to back this up except for including Vanessa Kirby’s name in the video since she has not appeared in an MCU movie yet.

While watching this live video, we noticed that music from the character’s movie tends to lead the camera to a new chair. This happened around noon Eastern Time when viewers saw the chair with Letitia Wright’s name on it. She plays Shuri in the “Black Panther” movies. Also, at 12:05 p.m., the camera moved to show a chair with Paul Rudd’s name on it. The “Ant-Man” played right before the change during the Marvel video. Sadly, we cannot watch this video all day. However, each name leads us to conclude that the entire cast reveal is more likely at some point in this video.

Updates

Update: at 12:15 p.m. Eastern Time, the camera moved to Wyatt Russell. He plays US Agent. Variety also reported that he is the latest “Avengers: Doomsday” cast member to be announced in Marvel’s livestream.

Also, around 12:27 p.m. Eastern Time, the camera moved to show the name Tenoch Huerta Mejia. He played Namor in “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.” In addition, around that time, Deadline reported Marvel Studios has a live stunt going on social media now where they’re cycling through actors’ on-set chairs to unveil names of those cast in the Russo Brothers’ “Avengers: Doomsday,”

Update: as of 1:05pm, additional cast has been announced including Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Thing in ‘Fantastic Four’ (2025), as well as Simu Lu as Shaun/Shang-Chi.

Update: as of 1:10pm another familiar face from the Thunderbolts is heading to Avengers: Doomsday. This time, it’s Florence Pugh, who is set to return as Yelena Belova.

At 1:25 p.m., Kelsey Grammer has just been announced as the latest addition to the cast of Avengers: Doomsday—he originally portrayed Dr. Hank McCoy, aka Beast, in the X-Men films and made a return in 2023’s The Marvels.

Update: at 1:35pm the latest casting reveal confirms that Lewis Pullman will return as Sentry, the immensely powerful character rooted in classic Marvel comics lore.

Falcon Returns

Around 1:45 p.m., the video shows that Danny Ramirez is set to reprise his role as Joaquin Torres, also known as Falcon, once again stepping in as Captain America’s trusted partner.

Update: 1:55pm and Joseph Quinn will return as Johnny Storm, aka the Human Torch, from The Fantastic Four: First Steps.

Update: 2:05pm, David Harbour is officially returning as Red Guardian in Avengers: Doomsday, bringing the fan-favorite super-soldier back into the action.

Around 2:15 p.m. Eastern Time, we learned that Winston Duke will reprise his role as M’Baku from Black Panther in Avengers: Doomsday, continuing his powerful presence in the MCU.

Update: 2:30pm, Hannah John-Kamen will return as Ghost in Avengers: Doomsday, bringing back the enigmatic and unpredictable character.

Update: 2:40pm, Tom Hiddleston is confirmed to return as Loki in Avengers: Doomsday, continuing the God of Mischief’s ever-evolving journey in the MCU.

Mutants for “Avengers: Doomsday Announced by Marvel Studios

Update: 2:55pm, Patrick Stewart is confirmed to return as Professor Charles Xavier in Avengers: Doomsday, marking another powerful appearance from the legendary mutant leader. In addition to Professor X, Ian McKellen will be a part of “Avengers: Doomsday.” We assume playing Magneto.

We also learned via this cryptic video that Alan Cumming would play a roie in “Avengers: Doomsday.” We assume he will play a version of Kurt Wagner/Nightcrawler. He played this mutant in “X2: X-Men United.”

Since “Avengers: Doomsday” functions as a part of the Multiverse saga, we do not know which part of the Marvel multiverse any of these characters are coming from. However, common speculation leads to thinking all the Fox “X-Men” movie mutants will be from the same universe. To add to that list of Fox mutants from the original X-Men trilogy, the Marvel video reveals that Rebecca Romijn will be in the cast. She played Mystique in those movies.

In addition to the other talented cast members who have played mutants in the FOX Marvel movie, the Marvel livestream revealed that James Marsden will return for this movie. He played Cyclops in the “X-Men” movies. We learned this around 3:47 p.m. Eastern time during the live video.

With Marsden returning, did that mean Famke Janssen would return to play Jean Grey? She played Jean Grey, portrayed by Famke Janssen, in five original X-Men films: X-Men, X2: X-Men United, X-Men: The Last Stand, The Wolverine, and X-Men: Days of Future Past.

Marvel Mutant Twist

However, at almost 4:00 p.m. Eastern Time, Marvel fans got their first twist regarding mutants for “Avengers: Doomsday.” The next chair in the live video has Channing Tatum’s name on it. He played Remy LeBeau/Gambit in the “Deadpool & Wolverine” movie released last year. The twist involves that he did not appear in the original “X-Men” movies. Will Tatum take over the role played by Taylor Kitsch, who played Gambit in the same movies as the other cast members who played mutants? At this point, we have no confirmation from Marvel Studios.

Pedro Pascal

The run of mutants ended around 4:12 p.m. Eastern Time in the live Marvel video. At that point, we saw the name Pedro Pascal. He is playing Mr. Fantastic, the leader of the Fantastic Four.

Ending

The live video ends with a door opening on the far side of the room. Robert Downey Jr. enters and sits in his chair. He then waves his arms in the direction of the chairs. After that, he walks off, and an image fills the screen declaring that “Avengers: Doomsday ” is in production.

It is time for further speculation since logic dictates that some other Marvel characters not alluded to in this video will be in the upcoming movie. Like usually happens with Marvel Cinematic Universe projects, only time will tell what happens with one.
