Oswald The Lucky Rabbit Disney+ From Jon Favreau in Works

According to Deadline, Jon Favreau looks to be using his talents to create a Disney+ series titled Oswald the Lucky Rabbit.

Jon Favreau has worked with Marvel Studios and has been the key force behind “The Mandalorian” on Disney+. “The Mandalorian” has been very popular since its arrival on Disney+. That character, along with the lovable Grogu, will be getting their own movie. The Mandalorian and Grogu will also take over Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run at Disneyland and Disney’s Hollywood Studios sometime in 2026.
According to Deadline, Jon Favreau is writing and producing an animation/live-action hybrid in partnership with Walt Disney Studios for Disney+ about Oswald the Lucky Rabbit. This character has a long, fascinating history that predates Mickey Mouse. In fact, Universal took control of the character in 1928, supposedly inspiring the creation of Mickey Mouse by Walt Disney.
Oswald the Lucky Rabbit
Oswald the Lucky Rabbit is notable for his ability to disassemble and reshape his body parts at will. He is credited for pioneering “personality animation”, which refers to cartoon characters displaying identifiable emotion. In Oswald’s case, he was often seen as feisty, and overzealous, which typically led to comical misadventures that put the rabbit’s trademark luck to the test.
When Bob Iger was named CEO, he stated he wanted to bring Oswald back to Disney. In February 2006, The Walt Disney Company received several minor assets, including the rights to Oswald, from NBCUniversal in exchange for sending sportscaster Al Michaels to NBC Sports. ABC had lost NFL broadcast rights at the time, and Michaels wanted to rejoin broadcast partner John Madden at NBC for the Sunday night package.
Reports of an Oswald the Lucky Rabbit show surfaced before. However, those were confirmed later as rumors or production got cancelled. Favreau has worked on other animated projects with Disney. It should be interesting to see how he handles this character. Also, how will modern audiences relate to Oswald the Lucky Rabbit? We must wait to see when this project happens and if it reaches completion. For more theme park-related news, please visit MSM News/
