At Illumination’s Minion Café in Universal Studios Florida, spies and foodies alike can agree on one thing: Lucy’s Top Secret Salmon ($21.99) is no classified flop. Normally, we’d never recommend ordering salmon at a theme park quick-service restaurant (the odds of flaky perfection are slimmer than a Minion in skinny jeans). Still, this entrée is the rare exception that deserves your mission acceptance.

Your Mission: Lucy’s Top Secret Salmon

This “mission possible” dish features wood-grilled Atlantic salmon, coconut blue rice, Thai cucumbers, and edamame, all topped off with one of the park’s most delightfully ridiculous touches: a squeezable “lipstick taser sauce tube. Yes, just like the gadgets in Despicable Me, this edible contraption delivers a sweet-and-spicy chili kick worthy of the Anti-Villain League. Universal Orlando cleverly named this after Lucy Wilde’s weaponized lipstick from Despicable Me, and fans of the movies will appreciate the nod.

We have ordered this dish several times. In fact, we tasted it twice on the opening weekends of Illumination’s Minion Cafe back in June 2023. During our most recent visit, the salmon had solid flavor with a nice sear, and when paired with the chili sauce, it delivered a balanced kick of sweetness and spice. The coconut blue rice adds both presentation flair and a subtle tropical note, while the cucumbers and edamame offer freshness, crunch, and — dare we say it — a dash of nutrition. Since finding a well-rounded, nutritious meal at a theme park can be tougher than catching a Minion chasing a banana, we applaud Universal for offering this thoughtful option.

In fact, we took a photo of Lucy’s Top Secret Salmon with a popular dietary guidance app. it indicated the Lucy’s Top Secret Salmon would be low in point, fat, and calories compared to many quick-service dining options. There’s even a cauliflower-based dish with similar ingredients for vegan diners who want to join in on the fun.

While we cannot guarantee you will love this, we can assure you that the entree’s components are of high quality. However, we did not enjoy it more when it cost under $20.

Inside Illumination’s Minion Café

Minion Cafe

The Minion Café is pure chaos, in the best possible way. Inspired by Despicable Me and the Minions films, this colorful eatery immerses guests in the whimsical world of Gru’s lab and his lovable yellow helpers. Expect test tubes bubbling, gadgets whirring, and also Minions sneaking peeks from every corner.

Each section of the café reflects a piece of Gru’s world, from the laboratory to the Minions’ break room. The menu embraces the theme with dishes like Otto’s Noodle Bowl, Agnes’s Honeymoon Soup, and, of course, Lucy’s Top Secret Salmon, inspired by Gru’s gadget-savvy wife. Between the imaginative theming, bright atmosphere, and creative culinary touches, Minion Café blends food and fun in equal measure.

Table Delivery: The Minion Way

Minion Cafe

Here’s a quirky twist you don’t often see in theme park quick service: table delivery. After mobile ordering from your table, guests simply sit back and wait for a friendly Minion team member to deliver their food straight to the table. Using a numbered system, the staff can locate you faster than Gru can steal another shrink ray. It’s a small but welcome touch that keeps the dining experience smooth and allows guests to relax and soak in the mischief-filled surroundings.

Lucy’s Top Secret Salmon

Lucy’s Top Secret Salmon is a surprisingly refined and flavorful dish that proves even a quick-service restaurant can offer a top-tier dining experience. The interactive sauce element, colorful sides, and nods to Despicable Me lore make it both entertaining and tasty. While we wouldn’t normally suggest ordering salmon in a theme park, this one’s an exception worth making.

Mission status: Deliciously accomplished — and Gru-approved. For more theme park dining reviews, visit MSM News every weekday at noon. As always, eat like you mean it!
